BackSouthern Regional Research Centre (SRRC) organized Scientists –Farmers interface meets at Puducherry (UT) and Chidambaram (TN)
The Southern Regional Research Centre (SRRC) of ICAR-CSWRI, Mannavanur organized two “Farmer-Scientist Interface” meets in Chidambaram (TN) and Puducherry (UT) on 27.03.2022. Upon the success of a similar event at TANUVAS, Chennai on 19.03.2022, the centre received multiple representations from the eastern districts of Tamil Nadu and Union territory of Puducherry. In an effort to support, motivate and shoulder the broiler rabbit farmers to organize themselves as viable enterprise, SRRC organized two “Farmer-Scientist Interface” meetings. First meeting was held at Bhuvanagiri, Chidambaram 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM, wherein around fifty (50) broiler rabbit rearing farmers participated. Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry, Cuddalore region, Govt. of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ponnambalam was the chief guest. Dr Mohan, Vet. Surgeon of Bhuvanagiri and other field veterinarians were also roped in. On the same day, the second meeting held in Puducherry at 03:00 PM wherein around 40 broiler rabbit farmers participated. The event was graced by Dr. Paranjothi, Senior Neurophysician of Puducherry, Dr. Duraisamy, Community Medicine specialist of Govt. of Puducherry, Dr. Senthilkumar, Deputy Director of Dept. of Animal Husbandry, Govt. of Puducherry, Dr, Nachimuthu, Professor & Head of Extension Department, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education & Research, Puducherry and Mr. Senthil Kumar, Tehsildar, Govt. of Puducherry.
Dr. A.S.Rajendiran, Officer Incharge, SRRC, Mannavanur welcomed the guests and delivered the presidential address in both the meets. He interacted with the broiler rabbit farmers and many field level issues of the broiler rabbitry represented by the farmers were addressed; along with other experts present in both the meets. The merits and uniqueness of rabbit meat (fryer) were explained to the farmers by the medical experts so as to use the pieces of information by the farmers as USP for promoting broiler rabbitry among the public. Mr Arul Kumar and Mr Swaminathan, progressive broiler rabbit rearers also shared their experiences with the audience. Dr. Pachaiyappan K, Scientist of SRRC took up the role event-comperer and presenter in both the meets.
