Release of Sheep Database Management System Portal (http://sheepdbms.org.in) and Manual at National Sheep-Wool and Farmer’s fair
ICAR-Central Sheep & Wool Research Institute (CSWRI), Avikanagar organised National Sheep, Wool & Farmer’s fair on 29.09.2018. The Fair was inaugurated by Honourable Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmer’s Welfare, Shri. Radha Mohan Singh ji. More than 5,000 farmers participated in the National Sheep & Wool Fair. Dr. Arun Kumar Tomar, Director ICAR-CSWRI welcomed all the guest and co-ordinated the function.
On this occasion, Sheep Database Management Portal (www.sheepdbms.org.in) was launched by Honourable Shri. Radha Mohan Singh ji. The Sheep Database Management System (DBMS) is an online database repository system designed to collect data from different centres working on sheep breeding and management at different places all over the India. The Sheep DBMS will work as central databank for all routinely collected and research generated data and will be maintained at the Project Coordinator unit of Network Project on Sheep Improvement/Mega Sheep Seed Project at ICAR-CSWRI Avikanagar. All the data will be available on website as online server-based storage and only authorized persons will have access to the database. In this database data from different centres will be uploaded in the provided format on website for different traits viz. inventory, adult weight, reproduction, wool quantity, wool quality, morbidity, mortality, sale of germplasm and disposal. All database files will be available to use for the research and other analysis work at one place. Collection of such data at one place and maintaining it using digital archive system is the need of the hour. The User manual and the DBMS system is developed under the guidance of PC NWPSI/MSSP (Dr. Arun Kumar) by the team of NWPSI and MSSP.
The manual of the DBMS along with CD was released on this occasion by H’ble Minister of Agriculture in the presence of Dr. J. K. Jena (DDG, Animal Science), Shri Prabhu Lal Saini (Minister of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Rajasthan), Shri Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria (MP, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur), Shri Kanhaiya Lal Choudhary (MLA, Todaraisingh-Malpura) and Director CSWRI Avikanagar.
