BackFOUR DAYS TRAINING CUM EXPOSURE VISIT OF ODISHA VETERINARY OFFICERS ON “RECENT TRENDS AND APPLICATIONS IN SHEEP HUSBANDRY” at SRRC, Mannavanur from 20th February to 23rd February 2018.



A team of ten veterinary officers from Govt. of Odisha have visited ICAR-CSWRI of Southern Regional Research Centre , Mannavanur for four days training cum exposure visit  on Recent Trends and Applications in sheep husbandry" from 20th February to 23rd February, 2018. The programme was sponsored by Veterinary officers Training Institute, Bhubaneswar under National Livestock Mission, Govt of India. The four days programme included orientation lectures on Sheep Breeds of India & their Characteristics, Selection, Breeding Strategies & policies, feeding & management strategies for climate resilient sheep production, Biotechnological tools in small ruminant production, vaccine development strategies, Grading the wool Quality Parameters, transfer of technology related to sheep and field visit to livestock farms in Madurai. During the programme Veterinary officers also exposed to the experiences of experts, Dr. S. Sivaseelan, Professor & Head, VUTRC, Madurai about Emerging Animal Health issue & Preventive Strategies, Dr. S. Sendur Kumaran, Professor & Head, KVK, Kundrakudi on fodder crops and their production using recent techniques like Hydroponics and Dr. M. Murugan, Professor & Head, VUTRC, Rajapalayam on Marketing management in small ruminant husbandry. In those four days programme, the officers showed their keen interest in biotechnology, diagnosis of disease,  collection, transportation of biological fluids in field condition, animal breeding protocol, stress management, prolificacy breeds of Orissa, shearing and wool processing. The group also visited the adopted villages and interacted with the farmers of Madurai. Dr. A. S. Rajendiran Officer In-charge, SRRC, Mannavanur has briefly explained an overview of the Small Ruminant Production; various technologies developed by CSWRI and narrated sheep as a future animal. The training–cum-exposure visit was organised and coordinated by Dr. S.M.K. Thirumaran, Scientist (AG&B), Dr. P. Thirumurugan, Sr. Scientist (LPM), Dr. G. Nagarajan, Sr. Scientist (ABT)  Sh. G. Murali, Tech. Officer Sh. K. Ganesan, Tech. Asst. and Sh. P. Subramani.
