BackInaugurated training on “Advances in Small Ruminant Production System” at ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar
The inaugural ceremony of a fifteen days training on “Advances in Small Ruminant Production System” was held at ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar, Rajasthan on 21st February 2018. This training program (Module II) is sponsored by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) Hyderabad with the theme to transform the Agriculture extension personnel into specialist- Certified Livestock Advisor (Sheep). The inaugural function began with welcoming Dr. S.A. Karim former Director of ICAR-CSWRI as chief guest followed by ICAR song. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. Arun Kumar Tomar, Director of the institute and attended by Divisional heads, Principal scientist and other scientific and non-scientific faculty members of the institute. The training batch comprises 22 Assistant directors and veterinary surgeons from 5 states (Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand). Dr Krishnappa Balaganur Course-coordinator outlined that the course contains basics on physiology, reproduction, advanced reproductive technologies, genetic and nutritional approaches to augment small ruminant’s production. Due weightage is also imparted on meat, milk and fibre technology, disease diagnosis and control measures in sheep. The training also encompasses practicals on relevant subjects as well as field visits to acquire in-depth knowledge and learn the latest technologies relevant to small ruminant production. During function some of the participants stressed the need of lectures pertaining to the marketing, housing and entrepreneurship in sheep husbandry. The chief guest Dr S.A. Karim detailed about different sheep production systems in India and role of commercial fat lamb production to meet nations demand. The director in his presidential speech highlighted research activities of the institutes and the economic benefits of the training for the sheep and goat farmers. He urged the participants to make effective use of training to disseminate the techniques in the field of their respective states. Dr. Arpita Mohapatra, delivered the vote of thanks.
