Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary DARE Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India and Director General, ICAR inaugurated Sheep Mela on 23 March 2013 at Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Avikanagar (Rajasthan). Prof. K.M.L. Pathak, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR was the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Dr. Rajesh Mann, Director, Animal Husbandry (Rajasthan), Dr. P.K. Ghosh, Director, IGFRI, Dr. N.V. Patil, Director, NRC on Camel, Dr. Balraj Singh, Director NRC on Seed Spices and Dr. Vineet Bhasin, Principal Scientist, ICAR were special invitees.
Dr. S.M.K. Naqvi, Director CSWRI welcomed the guests and briefed them about the extension activities of the Institute. Nine ICAR Institutes, 3 Agriculture Universities, Banasthali University, AH Department Rajasthan, Central Wool Development Board, Gujarat Sheep and Wool Development Corporation, KVK’s, Agriculture Extension Department, Women and Child Welfare Department, Pharma companies, NGO’s, LIC and SBBJ, participated in the Sheep Mela. More than 1000 farmers and 200 farm women along with 520 sheep, goat and rabbits participated and took part in the animal competitions. Twenty farmers awarded for best sheep, goat and rabbits and 10 farmers for best crops.
