BackTraining cum exposure visit of farmers from Odisha State under National Livestock Mission to SRRC, Mannavanur from 07th June to 09th June 2017.
A team of nine farmers along with one Veterinary officer from Odisha state visited Southern Regional Research Centre (ICAR-CSWRI), Mannavanur for “Three days training cum exposure visit on commercial sheep farming” from 07th June to 09th June 2017. The programme was sponsored by Chief District Veterinary Officer, Bolangir of Odisha State under National Livestock Mission, Govt of India. Dr. P.K. Mallick, Senior Scientist (AGB) welcomed the farmers and veterinary officer and briefed about the outline of the program. Dr. A.S. Rajendiran, Officer In-charge, SRRC, Mannavanur has briefly explained importance of Small Ruminant Production in livelihood of rural masses and detailed the various technologies developed by CSWRI. During the programme, lectures on sheep breeds, selection, breeding, health, nutrition, value addition of wool and TOT were delivered by the subject matter specialists. During the training programme, the farmers and Veterinary officers had shown their keen interest, learning by doing in wool shearing, hoof trimming and tattooing. And also they visualised the importance of elevated slatted housing, controlled breeding, vaccination and deworming. The group also visited the adopted villages and interacted with the farmers of Madurai and Ramnad district. The training was co-ordinated by Dr. S.M.K. Thirumaran, Scientist and also arranged the field visit of trainees to different sheep farms.
