Padam Bhushan Dr R S Paroda, former Secretary DARE & DG ICAR visited Arid Region Campus, Bikaner on 25th April, 2017. Dr Paroda was delighted to see the greenery and landscaping of the campus. He examined the hoggets and adult animals of Marwari, Magra and Chokla at Technology Park and discussed about their performance and utility for farmer community in desert eco-system. He especially wanted to see the Chokla animals keeping in view its popularity for higher wool production in India. He suggested proliferation of this breed as top priority in this arid region of India. Head of ARC, Dr A. K. Patel briefed the efforts of this institute to improve these carpet type breeds for wool and body weight traits and provide best genotypes to farmers for higher wool production and to make sheep enterprise more remunerative. The models of Improved Animal shelter in Technology Park were examined and he appreciated the design and insulation techniques applied in Improved Animal shelter to minimise thermal stress in animals. In this occasion the banyan tree was planted by Dr Paroda in Technology Park. The Directors of CIAH, NRCC and Heads of CAZRI, NRCE with all staff of ICAR institution were present on this occasion.
