BackShort-course on “Hands-on-training on Oestrus Synchronization and Artificial Insemination in Sheep” from 21st -27th March, 2017 inaugurated at Division of Animal Physiology and Biochemistry, ICAR-C.S.W.R.I., Avikanagar



A seven-days-long short-course entitled “Hands-on-training on Oestrus Synchronization and Artificial Insemination in Sheep” from 21st-27th  March, 2017 was inaugurated at the Division of Animal Physiology and Biochemistry, ICAR-C.S.W.R.I., Avikanagar. The program is sponsored by Central Wool Development Board, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. Veterinary officers from Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan have joined this course. The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Dr. S.M.K. Naqvi, Director of the institute and attended by various heads of the divisions, In-charges, Scientists, administrative and technical staffs. Dr. R. K. Paul, course coordinator outlined the course contents and informed that the short-course was aimed at hands-on-training on the practical aspects of estrus synchronization and artificial insemination in sheep in the farmer’s flock. Dr Davendra Kumar, the course director has stressed that the trainees will learn by doing on their own hands the different techniques including semen collection, evaluation, processing, short-term storage, subjective evaluation by CASA and various staining techniques.  The director of the institute in his speech highlighted the constraints of artificial insemination in small ruminants, beneficial role of oestrus synchronisation and fixed-time AI with chilled semen and the economic benefits of these techniques to the sheep farmers.  He urged to the participants to disseminate the techniques to the livestock assistants working in their states after returning to their place for widespread application and maximization of the benefit. Dr. Krishnappa, Scientist delivered the vote of thanks.
