BackA break-through 70 Kg WEANING WEIGHT -A RECORD PRODUCTION FROM AAVISHAAN EWE
Aavishaan ewe bearing a tag number B-245 gave birth quadruplet (1 male and 3 females) of birth weight 1.80, 2.30, 2.60 and 1.90kg, respectively totaling to 8.6 kg. This is a record birth weight harvested from a single Avishan ewe (23.6% of dam’s weight). These lambs were managed under stall feeding system along with the dam and achieved a record live weight of 70.4kg as against the 15 to 17kg from conventionally reared single lamb. It yielded an estimate of 36 kg mutton at 3 months from a single dam.
These lambs were offered MEMNAPRASH (liquid milk formulae) @ 50-250 ml/lamb/day on incremental basis along with adlib creep ration and green tree leaves. The total dry Memnaprash consumption during the pre-weaning period was approximately 10.2 kg costing Rs1272. Apart from this lambs consumed 52.2kg creep ration and 25.6kg greens on DM basis.

The lambs recorded a promising FCR of 1.529. The total cost of production was Rs3520/. The total income from such prolific ewes was Rs14000 (Market rate Rs200/kg live weight) as against the Rs3400 from single lamb bearing ewes. The total net income was Rs11200 excluding other management cost. The input out ratio was a whopping 1:4, with a cost benefit ratio 1:3. This mile stone will be path-breaking to enthuse the sheep farmers for doubling their income and ensuring their socioeconomic security.
