Dr Vikas Mahatme, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Padmashri awarded eye specialist from Nagpur, Maharashtra visited the Institute on 17.11.2016. He appreciated the efforts of institute for development of Avishaan sheep and showed interest in it for increasing income and livelihood of farmers in Maharashtra. He interacted with scientists on various issues and also suggested for strengthening sheep sector in the country among under privileged community for their social and economic upliftment.  He visited sheep sectors, FTU unit, Wool processing plant, Livestock Product Technology, Animal Nutrition and Animal Physiology and Biochemistry laboratories. Dumba sheep maintained in the institute under research programme was appreciated by him. He suggested that it should be made available to farmers of Maharashtra for increasing mutton production. Indigenous sponges for estrus synchronisation and milk replacer (Memna Prash) for lamb feeding developed by the institute was appreciated by him during his visit to laboratories. During interaction with scientists, he pointed out that major problem with farmers in the Maharashtra is shortage of feed and fodder resources. Various issues and strategies for strengthening feed and fodder production and storage were discussed.
