BackFour Days Training cum Study Visit of Odisha Veterinary Officers on “Recent Trends and Applications in Sheep Husbandry” to SRRC, Mannavanur from 17th July to 20th July 2016.



A team of ten veterinary officers from Govt. of Odisha visited Southern Regional Research Centre (ICAR-CSWRI), Mannavanur for “Four days training cum study visit on Recent Trends and Applications in sheep husbandry" from 17th to 20th July, 2016. The programme was sponsored by Veterinary Officers Training Institute, Bhubaneswar under National Livestock Mission, Govt of India. The Course Director Dr. P.K. Mallick, Senior Scientist (AGB) welcomed the delegates and briefed about the outline of the program. Dr. A.S. Rajendiran, Officer In-charge, SRRC, Mannavanur has briefly explained importance of Small Ruminant Production in livelihood of rural masses and detailed the various technologies developed by CSWRI. During the programme, lectures on sheep breeds, selection, breeding, health, nutrition, value addition of wool and TOT were delivered by the subject matter specialists. Further, the trainees were also exposed to the experiences of external experts, Dr. S. Sivaseelan, Professor and Head, VUTRC, Dindigul about emerging animal health issues & preventive strategies and Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian, Principal Scientist & former ADG (Agri. Extn.), ICAR on Strengthening of extension mechanisms in Livestock sector. During the training programme, the officers showed their keen interest in biotechnology, diagnosis of disease in field condition, animal breeding protocol, stress management, prolificacy and wool processing. The group also visited the adopted villages and interacted with the farmers of Madurai. The visit was coordinated by Dr. G. Nagarajan, Sr. Scientist and Dr. S.M.K. Thirumaran, Scientist and supervised by Dr. R. Pourouchottamane, Sr. Scientist. Dr. S. Rajapandi coordinated the field visit of trainees to different sheep farms.
