BackICAR-CSWRI successfully organised ICAR- sponsored short course on Farm Animal Data Analysis from 11-20, July 2016



A ten day ICAR- sponsored short course on “Recent Models and Methods for Analysis of Farm Animal Data for Devising Suitable Breeding and Management Strategy” from 11.07.16 to 20.07.16 was conducted at ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar. Twenty three (23) participants including 6 women participants from eleven different states participated in the short course.   Honourable Vice chancellor, RAJUVAS, Bikaner, Prof. (Dr.) Col. A. K. Gahlot presided over valedictory function as a chief guest. Dr. S M K Naqvi, Director, CSWRI welcomed the chief guest and introduced the gathering with his outstanding research credentials. Course Director of the program, Dr.Ved Prakash   briefed about activities conducted during the program.  The course included theory and practical sessions on   various topics like use of animal model for univariate and multivariate analysis and repeated record analysis, lactation curve modelling, selection Index, pedigree analysis, maternal effects analysis, random regression and Bayesian statistics. The hands on training for use of software packages like SAS, SPSS, Pedigree Viewer, ENDOG, WOMBAT, MTGSAM for data analysis was also imparted. Basic genome study methods like genome analysis, allele substitution effect, gene expression and sequence based typing was also covered.  During the field and farm visit the participants were detailed about farm management and data recording practices at farm and field. Participants from various parts of country praised the program and appreciated the efforts put in by ICAR-CSWRI. A CD containing the course materials, presentation and software packages was released by Chief Guest.  Certificates were distributed to all the participants by the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest appreciated the technologies developed and undergoing research work of ICAR-CSWRI and congratulated the Director, Dr. S M K Naqvi for the achievements. He highlighted the importance of data analysis and   lauded the   effort of Course Director for his initiative of conducting a course on recent advancement in farm animal data analysis. The program was coordinated by Dr. Arun Kumar, Head AGB.  Dr. L LL Prince, Course Coordinator, proposed vote of thanks. The program ended with National Anthem.
