BackField day and one day Kisan Gosthi at village Shuru, Tehsil Manali
A ‘field day’ cum farmers’ training was organized on 28-07-2015 by ICAR-North Temperate Regional Station of ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute, Garsa at village ‘Shuru’ of tehsil Manali, District Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. The programme was attended by about 35 sheep farmers, farm-women and members of gram panchayat. On the occasion, Dr. O.H. Chaturvedi (Principal Scientist, Animal Nutrition) delivered lecture on importance of nutrition of sheep/goat and cattle and preparation of concentrate feed with locally available ingredients. He also emphasized the importance of improved breeds, breeding management, housing system in details. Dr. D. Sethi (Scientist, Veterinary extension) delivered lecture on health care, diseases, prevention and treatment of common ailments. After the lectures, a Kisan Gosthi was conducted to discuss the problems faced by sheep farmers and their queries were addressed. Sick animals of the farmers were also treated. Farmers were also made aware about the benefits of keeping the animal sheds, village and surroundings clean by Sh. M.K. Sharma (Sr. Technical Officer), a step in the direction of Swachha Bharat Abhiyan. Farmers showed interest to attend training programme at ICAR-NTRS campus, Garsa to know more about advances in sheep husbandry practices.
