BackFree Sirohi animal distribution programme to BPL Scheduled Caste (SC) goat farmers under Sirohi goat project (AICRP) - SCSP component on 04.01.2024_
A free animal distribution programme was organized at Sirohi goat sector, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar on 04.01.2024 on the occasion of Institute foundation day. Five goat farmers from Scheduled Caste (SC) community belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) from village Chandsen were freely distributed with a total of 14 genetically improved Sirohi goats (05 males and 09 females) under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) component of Sirohi goat project (ICAR-AICRP on goat improvement). The programme was organized in the august presence of Dr. Arun Kumar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar along with other dignitaries, Dr. Indrajit Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Dr. A. Sahoo, Director, ICAR-NRC on Camel, Bikaner, Dr. M.K. Chatli, Director, ICAR-CIRG, Makhdoom and Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-CIRC, Meerut.
The dignitaries were apprised of the immense popularity and demand of Sirohi goats among the farmers, not only from Rajasthan but also from all over the country. They were also briefed about the different project activities being carried out under Sirohi goat project (AICRP) including its unwavering efforts towards uplifting the livelihood and socio-economic status of the goat farmers of the region through distribution/sale of genetically improved Sirohi goat germplasm. Besides the Sirohi goat farmers associated with the project, the programme was also attended by the Co-PIs, Dr. P.K. Mallick, Dr. S.M.K. Thirumaran, Dr. Saravanan, K.A. and other scientists and staff of the Institute. The programme was coordinated by Dr. S.S. Misra, Principal Investigator, Sirohi goat project (AICRP) and Head, Division of Animal Genetics and Breeding.
