BackSRRC organized a hands-on training programme for progressive rabbit farmers during 17-19 October 2023
Southern Regional Research Centre of ICAR-CSWRI organized a three-days practical hands-on training for rabbit farmers of Tamil Nadu. In a series of self-sponsored trainings conducted since 2022, this programme commenced on 17th October 2023 with 10 progressive farmers from 8 districts of Tamil Nadu. On the inaugural session, Dr.P.Thirumurugan, OIC, SRRC, in his address, thanked Dr A K Tomar, the Director CSWRI for continuous encouragement and laid special emphasis on learning the nitty-gritty of all aspects of rabbitry so that profitability and doubling the income are assured. Being a self-sponsored training, farmers were asked about their felt needs for this training. Farmers were from Chennai, Krishnagiri, Perambalur, Trichy, Villupuram, Sivaganga, Namakkal, and Chengalpattu districts of Tamilnadu. Lectures were delivered on theoretical aspects of housing, breeding, feeding, health and marketing. Practical sessions on handling, retraining, sexing, pregnancy diagnosis, cage design, nest-box management, record-keeping, feed formulation, PM examination and reporting to a consultant, first-aid measures, disease control measures in farm, transportation etc were offered to the trainees. Elaborate interactive session was also arranged to clear the doubts and guiding them technically from breeding to marketing the meat. On 19th October 2023, certificates were distributed to the trainees in the valedictory session. This training programme was coordinated by Dr.S.Jegaveera Pandian, Senior Scientist (Veterinary Medicine) and supported by Dr.K.Pachaiyappan, Scientist (Vet.Extn.Edu.). With the vote of thanks by Mr.G.Murali, STO, programme was concluded.
