BackEducational tour of 60 students of B.Sc., Botany from Madras Christian College, Chennai to SRRC on 14.3.14
For the first time, after hearing/ learning about the usefulness of SRRC, Mannavanur through the CSWRI web page (www.cswri.res.in), Dr. S. Ravi Shankar, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Biology & Plant Biotechnology, Madras Christian College (Autonomous), Tambaram, Chennai had arranged an educational tour for 60 students of B.Sc., (Botany) along with 3 faculty for the visit to SRRC of Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute on 14.03.2014, so as to know about the research, training and extension activities of SRRC Mannavanur in general and about the temperate fodder plants in particular.
Dr. A. S. Rajendiran, Principal Scientist and Officer In-charge explained them about Bharat Merino sheep, Broiler rabbits, forage for sheep/rabbits as well as wool production / utilization. Students shown keen interest to learn about the temperate forage plants such as tree Lucerne, silver oak, erythrina, mulberry, setaria, kikiyu grass, oats, wheat, Lucerne and Hybrid Napier Co-3. Many students seen the wheat plant in full bloom stage for the first time.
All the students had gained practical knowledge on temperate forage crops as part of their subject and they expressed their gratitude to CSWRI as whole for having given them adequate information. The students felt very happy for updating their relevant technical knowledge.
